We’d like to take this opportunity to announce a complete revision and overhaul on all four of our Intel based Custom Built Gaming Systems. Somehow we’ve managed to keep the pricing on these Systems the same, while seriously upgrading a lot of their components.

We’ve selected a brand new Power Supply, Motherboard, Processor, Hard Drive and Graphics Card for each of our Systems. The first three Systems all have a new E8 Series 45nm Wolfdale Processor while the fourth System is sporting the brand new Intel Quad Core Q9450 Yorkfield Processor, which is also 45nm. Check out our Custom Built Gaming Sytems section to have a look.

Below is a direct link to the installation file for AVG AntiVirus v8.01 for those of you having a problem finding the new free version. I should also point out a couple of important items…

You do not need to uninstall AVG AntiVirus v7.5 prior to installing 8.01

You should (or I would) uncheck the option to install the AVG Security Toolbar when prompted

It would be a good idea to change the time of the daily scanning from 12:00PM to 12:00AM when prompted

We’re happy to announce our enabling of something called Wordpress. “WordPress is a state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability.” It’s usually used as a blogging tool, but we’re using it as a glorifyied CMS, which gives us greater control and flexibility in nearly every aspect our web related business touches.

Most notable changes are the slight aesthetic “tweaks” that have occurred over the past 24 hours on our Home Page. And as such came some added functionality. A news archive and a syndication feed (RSS 2.0) being the most apparent.

We won’t bore you with all the gory details, but our job at keeping our customers in touch with us and the computing world–how it relates to them, of course–just became that much easier…

"The newly announced AVG Anti-Virus Free 8.0 adds fully integrated spyware protection for speedier scanning and also checks all links in search results using AVG's LinkScanner technology."

Source: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2286328,00.asp

The newly announced AVG Anti-Virus Free 8.0 adds fully integrated spyware protection for speedier scanning and also checks all links in search results using AVG’s LinkScanner technology.
by Neil J. Rubenking

AVG Technologies on Wednesday announced AVG Anti-Virus Free 8.0, a new version with significant new features. This version adds fully integrated spyware protection for speedier scanning and also checks all links in search results using AVG’s LinkScanner technology. The product will be available for download from Free.AVG.com starting on Thursday, April 24.

“With the release of AVG Free 8.0, we are underscoring our belief that all computer users, regardless of their computer usage needs, have the right to a safe and worry-free computing experience,” said Karl Obluk, CTO of AVG Technologies.

AVG’s antivirus technology, the strongest element of the company’s AVG Security Suite 8, got the VB100% award in Virus Bulletin’s last three tests, and ICSA Labs certifies it for virus detection. West Coast Labs goes further, giving it checkmark certification for both virus detection and cleaning, plus another checkmark for Trojan horse detection. European lab AV-Comparatives gave it their top rating for on-demand virus removal; it didn’t rate as high in tests of behavior-based detection. AV-Test of Germany rated it very good at spyware detection, good at virus detection, and merely satisfactory at cleaning up what it detected. The suite turned in decent scores in PC Magazine’s own tests of its ability to clean up malware and prevent it from attacking a clean system.

The free edition’s antivirus and antispyware scans are now fully integrated. According to Managing Director Rick Carlson this makes the scan process many times faster. He also noted that AVG Free has a deserved reputation for being light on resources, and went on to point out that you don’t have to give AVG anything in return for downloading the free edition—not even your e-mail address.

AVG purchased Exploit Prevention Labs last year, acquiring its LinkScanner technology. New in this version, AVG Free includes a light version of LinkScanner. Each time you make a search at Google, MSN, or Yahoo! it will check every link and flag any that are dangerous. Unlike SiteAdvisor, which runs weeks-long tests to rate Web sites, LinkScanner works in real time. If hackers have infiltrated an innocent site and added malicious exploit code, LinkScanner will catch the problem right away.

PC Magazine hasn’t specifically tested the free version, so we can’t yet report how it compares to free competitor avast! antivirus 4.8 Home Edition. We’ll have a review for you as soon as we finish evaluating the product.

"CraveSystems.com was built on valid “Transitional” XHTML 1.0 for structure and CSS for looks."

Welcome to the latest version of CraveSystems.com. It was a long time coming, as any frequent visitor might attest. We’re proud to say, it’s finally here. Well most of it is. The new look and feel are complete. However in the coming weeks we plan on updating some of the content and slightly tweeking the sites functionality. Please bear with us as we tend to these issues.

But in the meantime we’d like to highlight a few technological subtleties regarding our site. And specifically the foundation in which it has been built upon…

Web standards are the future of the web, how it will be built and how it will be seen. Therefore we declare complete standards compliance. CraveSystems.com was built on valid “Transitional” XHTML 1.0 for structure and CSS for looks. Need proof? Click either the XHTML or CSS links at the very bottom of this and every page within this site to validate our work.

The point? Well given our presentation and our structure are now separate entities, in theory that means our site should be accessible to anyone using most everything. Or that’s our hope. Is it perfect? Probably not. But it’s a start. And it is keeping our “webmaster” busy to get it up to an acceptable level. That said to insure you’re seeing what we’ve intended you to see, browsing devices such as Firefox, Safari or Opera are recommended. But by no means essential. After all it’s about “accessibility.” A level playing field for all to enjoy.

So enjoy…
